Weekend Traffic Upheaval: Motorways in North Rhine-Westphalia to Shut Down – Be Prepared for Gridlock

Weekend closures on highways lead to anticipated traffic congestion - Weekend closures on highways could lead to traffic congestion ahead

Cruising the motorways this weekend around Cologne, the Ruhr area, and Sauerland? Watch out for bumper-to-bumper traffic!

Construction work on major routes is set to disrupt travel plans from Friday evening until Monday morning. A1 commuters between Leverkusen-West and Leverkusen face complete shutdown due to construction near the new Leverkusen Rhine bridge.

If you're heading towards Dortmund on A1, Autobahn GmbH advises taking a detour via A59 to Düsseldorf and A46. Motorists aiming for Koblenz need to proceed only as far as the Leverkusen interchange, then navigate back to the A59 towards Düsseldorf, reaching Leverkusen-Rheindorf junction before continuing on A1.

Alternatively, road users could opt for the Rhineland ferry between Leverkusen-Hitdorf and Cologne-Langel, available from 10:00 to 17:00 on Saturday and Sunday. ADAC Nordrhein cautions about an increased risk of traffic congestion due to the closure on the so-called Cologne ring motorways.

Up north, A52 is closed between Düsseldorf and Essen as a pedestrian bridge is demolished between Essen-Haarzopf and Essen-Rüttenscheid. Additionally, the A42 at the Herne interchange will be closed this weekend, with traffic management changes in the existing major construction site at Herne-Crange and Herne-Baukau.

Moreover, motorists heading north on A45 will face closure just behind the permanent closure at the Rahmedetal bridge due to the renovation of the Brunsbecke bridge, between Lüdenscheid-Nord and Hagen-Süd.

Stay ahead of the traffic game!Navigating alternative routes around motorway closures in North Rhine-Westphalia can be tricky due to ongoing construction and bridge demolition. Utilize navigation apps like Google Maps or Waze for real-time traffic updates and alternative routes. Remember to check local traffic news or official autobahn websites regularly for the latest closure information, plan ahead, and allow extra travel time as detours can prolong your journey.

If the Cologne area is affected by closures, consider using A57 or A46 as alternatives. The Ruhr area might benefit from detours along A43 or A52. In Sauerland, federal roads like B54 or B229 could prove helpful if autobahn closures occur.

As always, ensuring the most efficient travel requires keeping up-to-date on traffic conditions and road closures and being prepared for potential delays due to construction or weather conditions. Stay vigilant, and safe journeys!

Community aid may be necessary due to increased traffic and gridlock resulting from the construction work on motorways.

For those planning a lifestyle change involving travel over the weekend, it would be prudent to research alternate modes of transport for the construction of new railways, such as the Rhineland ferry, to avoid the upheaval on motorways in North Rhine-Westphalia.
