TAP Air Portugal recently rolled out a thrilling venture, a weekly air route between Terceira Island in the Azores and San Francisco, California, lasting from now until September 17th on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. This mission is undertaken by A330neo aircraft, comfortably accommodating approximately 298 passengers.
Artur Lima, the Vice-president of the Regional Government, cheerfully describes this transatlantic line as a vital link for the Azorean diaspora and the Azores, fostering connections on a cultural, economic, political, and strategic level.
Emphasizing the importance of this new route for the Azorean communities abroad, Artur Lima expressed his pleasure at enhancing the connection between Azoreans residing in the United States and their historic roots. He noted evident advantages for the tourism sector, particularly islands in the Central group, including Terceira, Graciosa, Săo Jorge, Pico, and Faial, and the Azores overall.
"With this new TAP route, we're breaking down barriers and reducing distances between the Azores and the diaspora," said Artur Lima, during a press release from the Regional Government. Back in 2023, during a tour to California, he affirmed his determination to dismantle the geographical divide between the Azores and its scattered communities.
In August 2024, Artur Lima met with Luíis Rodrigues, the chairman of TAP's board of directors, focusing discussions on the mobility of Azoreans and shoring up air links between the archipelago and North America. On a positive note, this air link bridges us still closer to our purpose.
