UN, AU, EU Pledge Deeper Cooperation for African Peace, Development

The United Nations, African Union, and European Union have reaffirmed their commitment to peace and sustainable development in Africa. They issued a joint communiqué after their sixth trilateral meeting at UN Headquarters in New York, pledging deeper cooperation to tackle global challenges and end conflicts.

The leaders of the three organisations endorsed the UN roadmap for Libya, urging continued efforts to address migration challenges while adhering to humanitarian standards. They also pledged stronger coordination in the Sahel region to combat violence by armed groups and support reconciliation efforts.

The communiqué highlighted Africa's Agenda 2063 and the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as guiding frameworks. It expressed support for ongoing peace initiatives in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Somalia. The three organisations called for intensified collective support to secure an immediate cessation of hostilities and a sustainable solution in Sudan.

The UN, AU, and EU reaffirmed their support for multilateralism and adherence to the UN Charter. They agreed to deepen trilateral cooperation to advance African-led solutions to peace and security challenges, demonstrating a united front in their commitment to Africa's stability and development.
