UECC Adopts Emissions Standard, Explores Biofuel for Greener Maritime Operations

United European Car Carriers (UECC) has taken a significant step towards greening its operations. The company has adopted a standard methodology for greenhouse gas emissions accounting, developed by the Association of European Vehicle Logistics (ECG) and Smart Freight Centre. Additionally, UECC is exploring the use of a sustainable biofuel, DSI.100, in its maritime vessels.

The Ro-Ro GHG Emissions Accounting Guidance, the adopted standard, provides a framework for reporting shipment emissions, transport activity, and carbon intensities from multimodal transport operators. This move by UECC demonstrates its commitment to transparency and accountability in its environmental impact.

In another sustainability initiative, UECC is collaborating with Act Group, Lloyd's Register, and Wartsila to test and implement DSI.100 biofuel in its vessels. This fuel offers a substantial 'well-to-wake' emissions reduction of 90% compared to conventional maritime fuels. UECC's three LNG dual-fuel powered vessels are being expanded to include this sustainable option, further enhancing the company's European vehicle-forwarding services.

By adopting the Ro-Ro GHG Emissions Accounting Guidance and exploring the use of DSI.100 biofuel, UECC is positioning itself as a leader in sustainable maritime transport. The company's commitment to reducing emissions and increasing transparency is a positive step for the industry and the environment.
