Tulsa County Administered Over 10,000 Flu Vaccines as OSDH Urges Everyone to Get Vaccinated

Tulsa County has administered over 10,000 flu vaccines this season, with the Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) urging everyone over six months to get vaccinated. The flu vaccine is crucial in preventing the spread of influenza, as seen in the recent first influenza-associated deaths reported in Tulsa County for the 2020-2021 season.

The regular injectable flu vaccine costs $25, while the high-dose vaccine is $63. Uninsured adults may qualify for waived costs. Children up to 18 years can receive vaccines for free through the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program if they are uninsured or meet other criteria. The flu vaccine not only prevents the flu but also reduces its severity and prevents its spread to others.

Tulsa Health Department locations offer the vaccine, with masks required and COVID-19 symptom screening upon arrival. Since September 1, 2020, there have been 149 influenza-associated hospitalizations statewide, with 45 occurring in Tulsa County. Last season, the flu resulted in 85 deaths and 3,580 hospitalizations among Oklahomans.

No recent influenza-associated deaths were reported in Tulsa County within the past week. However, the OSDH continues to recommend vaccination to protect both individuals and the community. The flu vaccine is available at various Tulsa Health Department locations, ensuring accessibility for all residents.
