TUD & UNU Launch CREST Hub to Combat Climate Change
The Technical University of Dresden (TUD) and the United Nations University have joined forces to establish the UNU-Hub Climate Resilience and Sustainable Technology (CREST). Led by Prof. Jürgen Stamm and Dr. André Lindner, this central hub aims to foster international collaboration and address climate change collectively.
CREST's inception was announced at the Dresden Nexus Conference in April 2025, which saw over 75 countries represented. The conference focused on innovative concepts for sustainable resource use, setting the stage for CREST's mission. The hub will serve as a bridge between science and practice, cooperating with political decision-makers, companies, and communities to promote climate-resistant infrastructures, adaptive water management, and circular technologies.
Prof. Tshilidzi Marwala, President of the United Nations University, expressed the institution's commitment: 'As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we reaffirm our readiness to expand partnerships and turn knowledge into action.' TUD President Prof. Ursula Staudinger echoed this sentiment, stating that the hub's foundation in Dresden strengthens international cooperation to tackle climate change and resource scarcity.
CREST will promote interdisciplinary research and innovative learning programs, fostering resource efficiency and climate protection on an international scale. By bringing together diverse stakeholders, the hub aims to create a strong international network that can effectively address climate change collaboratively.
