In Germany, vacation prices have seen a significant increase, particularly for flights abroad. This rise is attributed to a mutual increase in hotel, campsite, and flight prices, according to Anton Maichle, owner of a travel agency with branches in Biberach and Laupheim. No specific cause has been identified for this increase.

Despite the increased costs, popular vacation destinations remain in high demand. Tunisia, for example, has become increasingly popular due to humane price increases, while Greece continues to be a favourite, with many new bohemian hotels attracting customers with their stylish charm.

Interestingly, cruises are booming, with demand being extremely high, particularly for families who benefit from discounts and often find cheap offers for young people up to 24 years old. However, for a good vacation with two children, one now has to budget 3,500 to 4,000 euros.

As a result, more families are staying at home, switching to the cheaper Pentecost holidays, or deciding to take shorter trips. This trend is particularly noticeable in regions like Biberach, where travelers may face higher prices for flights abroad and have fewer direct flight options, leading to more expensive or complicated travel plans.

Turkey, despite a significant increase in prices, especially for families, is a clear favourite vacation destination for Anton Maichle. Despite the overall decrease in vacation enthusiasm due to rising prices, Anton Maichle is satisfied with the current business year so far.

For those who want to save on travel costs, booking early is crucial, as classic last-minute bargains no longer exist, according to Sonja Eitel, owner of Fromm Reisen in Biberach. Mallorca remains the most popular island for the high summer, with beach vacations remaining the undisputed leader. People are finding time for city trips at the beginning of June.

Despite the challenges, Sonja Eitel still feels the travel enthusiasm of people, with the classic beach vacation being in high demand. The drop in travelers will be particularly noticeable in the current vacation season.

Economic and social policy discussions may now include travel expenditure, as families adjust their budgets to accommodate rising vacation costs. As a result, finance plays a significant role in lifestyle choices, with many opting for cheaper alternatives such as local vacations or shorter trips.

Anton Maichle, the travel agency owner, indicates a shift in travel preferences, as popular vacation destinations, such as Greece and Turkey, continue to attract customers despite increased prices, demonstrating the resilience of the travel industry, even in the face of economic changes.
