Tackling Norilsk's Mount Schmidt:

A Bold Plan for a Tourist Haven

In the frosty heart of Norilsk, a city nestled in the Kransoyarsky Krai's frigid embrace, an ambitious project is underway. The goal? Transforming Mount Schmidt, a geographical gem named after the renowned Russian geologist and academic Federico Bogdanovich Schmidt, into a tantalizing destination for the hardy souls of the north and adventurous tourists.

The blueprint for this daring venture has been crafted by ludi_architects, a stellar architectural firm hailing from the vibrant city of St. Petersburg, who already sketched out a concept trail showcasing industrial artifacts on the mountain back in 2022. Working alongside Ruslan Kotulev and other talented minds from the urban planning workshop "Linea" in Irkutsk, the team is developing the project documentation for the initial phase of development.

"In collaboration with Ruslan Kotulev and other Irkutsk colleagues from the urban planning workshop "Linea," we are busy crafting the project, working, and city-planning documentation for the start of the recreational zone's development. This first phase includes an entrance platform adorned with warm pavilions and parking, a tourist trail extending over 1 km, and a panoramic viewing platform," they revealed in A2.

The technical commissioner for the project is the Municipal Department for Capital Repairs and Construction of Norilsk.

Previously, it was reported that the project blueprints and cost estimates for constructing a tourist staircase on Mount Schmidt would be finalized by 2025. With an expected length surpassing all other stairs in Russia, it is predicted to become the longest staircase in the country.
