Title: Robert Eggers, Conquering Vampires with "Nosferatu," Now Sets Sights on Werewolves

Looking like the long-awaited Labyrinth reboot might need to take a backseat, as Robert Eggers continues to bask in the success of Nosferatu, has opted to stay in the period-accurate monster realm. This time, he's got a werewolf at the heart of his newest project, Werwulf. Eggers will be directing this chilling tale, co-written with his script collaborator Sjón, just in time for Christmas 2026.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a few details about Werwulf have emerged: it's set in medieval England, boasts dialogue true to the era, and includes translations and annotations to help those unfamiliar with Old English. Initially, the film was planned to be shot in black and white, but that's no longer the case.

Like its predecessors The Witch and Nosferatu, Werwulf will be a Focus Features release. This historical horror tale from Eggers promises yet another display of his prowess in capturing period detail, with his distinguishing touch on period-accurate narratives.

With Universal's Wolf Man underperforming in its maiden week, there might be a growing demand for another harrowing transformation under the full moon by Christmas 2026. Will Bill Skarsgård join the ranks of Eggers' protagonists as a 13th century werewolf, or will Eggers take a different route with the creature this time?
