Summer getaway gearing up in Thuringia! According to ADAC's forecast, the onset of summer holidays is imminent.
The Road Ahead: Summer Holidays in Thuringia 2025
A Heads Up for Your Summer Vacation Journey!
ADAC traffic forecast for the summer holidays kick-off in Thuringia, Germany.
This year, Thuringia joins Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt as one of the first states to kick off the summer holidays. On the 28th of June, ADAC expects moderate traffic on Thuringia's motorways at the start of the holidays.
Potential Bottlenecks
Be prepared for increased traffic, especially on the A4 and A9 motorways, particularly around Hermsdorfer Kreuz, due to the simultaneous start of the holidays in Saxony. You might also encounter congestion at Erfurter Kreuz on peak days. In southern Thuringia, ongoing roadworks on the A71 may disrupt traffic flow. Additionally, nationwide, there will be an increase in traffic jams and congestion during the summer holidays, especially at motorway construction sites and on heavily traveled long-distance roads leading south or towards the Baltic Sea. With around 1200 construction sites slowing down traffic across the country, it's essential to plan accordingly.
Smart Travel Choices
On the last school day before the holidays (Friday, 27.06.), holidaymakers from Thuringia should anticipate increased traffic, including tourists from the neighboring states of Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt, as well as weekend vacationers. To beat the traffic, travel flexible and alter your schedule to counter-cyclically. "Those who cannot change their departure time should strive to avoid regular rush hour traffic by traveling during off-peak hours," advises traffic expert Wolfgang Herda from ADAC Hessen-Thuringia. The first major holiday traffic is typically already through by the start of the week, so Monday to Wednesday are your best bet as travel days.
Before setting off, be sure to stay updated on the current traffic situation, look for alternative routes, and plan breaks for refreshments and exercise, especially for families with children.
Navigating Emergency Situations
In the event of traffic congestion, remember the rule: "All left vehicles move to the left, and all other vehicles drive to the right."
Tips for Safety
With temperatures soaring, never leave children or animals alone in a locked car, even for a short period of time. The interior of a vehicle heats up extremely quickly, presenting health hazards to the occupants.
