The Low-Key Celebration of the Jubilée Carnival in Neuss

Stunning photos capturing the dazzling procession of headgear. The event was mesmerizingly beautiful.

This year's Jubilée procession in Neuss, from a help organization's perspective, shined as a remarkably tranquil and peaceful Mardi Gras. Compared to the chaos of last year, the demand for emergency services saw a significant drop.

The emergency medical technicians, rescue, and medical service personnel, along with the emergency doctor, had to deploy 30 percent fewer troops this year compared to last (71 versus 78). In total, the Johanniters, Maltesers, and Red Cross intervened six times with an ambulance, eleven times with a rescue vehicle, and once with an emergency doctor's vehicle. Four incidents required initial assistance from the eight first aid teams before the victims were transported to the hospital.

A single instance of emergency pastoral care was necessary, catering to a dementia patient until they could be safely transferred to family members via police assistance. Alcohol-related incidents were less common this year, causing problems only in two instances. The remaining incidents involved minor injuries and circulatory issues, one of which necessitated a trip to an eye clinic due to a stray chocolate bar.

The Carnival Committee's Andreas Picker and Mayor Breuer lauded the aid forces, including the police and municipal authority, at the central station after the Mardi Gras procession. Their commendation was broadcast via loudspeakers, accompanied by applause from the spectators, for their diligent and safe handling of the celebrations.

The police increased patrols at some hotspots on Mardi Gras, effectively preventing or settling conflicts prior to their escalation. The initial assessment of their efforts was positive.

In the 24-hour period between Sunday, March 2, at 6:00 AM and Monday, March 3, at 6:00 AM, the police dealt with 24 carnival-related incidents. Eleven dispersal orders were issued, six people were taken into custody, and sixteen bodily harm complaints were filed. Thankfully, no one was left with serious injuries during these disturbances.

As was the case last year, no sexual harassment or assault complaints were lodged this year. The police ensured safety on the streets, ran numerous vehicle checks, and examined the roadworthiness of drivers. An inebriated individual attracted the police's attention while driving, but no officers were harmed during resistance incidents this year.

The Neuss police district remains optimistic with the many responsible attendees that contributed to a peaceful carnival Sunday and the other events within the district. They express their appreciation to everyone who exhibited responsible behavior and helped to keep vandalism and violence at bay, resulting in a joyful and peaceful festival.

Behind the Scenes

Several factors can contribute to a successful and incident-free event, such as:

  1. Increased Security: A larger presence of security personnel and improved surveillance systems can deter potential troublemakers and quickly respond to any emerging issues.
  2. Effective Crowd Management: Strategying crowd control to prevent overcrowding and ease stress among attendees can lead to a smoother and safer event.
  3. Better Planning: Changes in event procedures, like providing more amenities, improving crowd flow, or reducing alcohol consumption, can all contribute to reducing incidents.
  4. Community Engagement: Involving local communities in planning processes can create a sense of ownership and responsibility among attendees.
  5. Favorable Weather: Good weather conditions can foster a more positive and less contentious atmosphere.

While these factors are common at successful events, the specific circumstances influencing the low-key celebration of the Jubilée Carnival in Neuss remain unclear without specific event reports.
