On August 22, the "Story Café" event will take place at the "Eigenart" café in Wichmannsdorf. This unique gathering, organised by Elli Horn from the "Care on site" project, Holger Siemann from the cultural committee of the municipal council, and Andreas Dreikorn from the "Eigenart" café, aims to shed light on the life realities of women, working people in the countryside, and local actors.

The event will begin at 6 pm and will feature discussions, presentations, and storytelling sessions. This evening promises to be a fascinating exploration of Wichmannsdorf's history, with a particular focus on the profession of municipal nurses.

Municipal nurses, it seems, were not just medical care providers but also offered spiritual care, social work, and mediation. The experiences of Elke Rösler and Elli Horn, former municipal nurses, will be shared, offering a unique insight into this often overlooked aspect of rural healthcare.

The event will also delve into the training process for municipal nurses, providing an interesting perspective on how these dedicated individuals were prepared for their roles in the community.

In addition, the event will be accompanied by excerpts from the DEFA film "Sister Agnes" (1975), a film that still resonates today with its portrayal of a dedicated nurse navigating the challenges of rural healthcare. Agnes Kraus, the main character in the film, remains a cult figure in nursing circles.

The discussions will not be limited to the past, however. Current topics such as the pilot projects 'AGnES 2.0' or 'Municipal Nurse Plus' can be expected to feature, offering a glimpse into the future of rural healthcare.

Holger Siemann, one of the organisers, encourages ideas for further Story Cafés and invites anyone who wants to tell their stories to get in touch. The Story Café offers a space for memories, exchange, and new perspectives, making it an event not to be missed for those interested in Wichmannsdorf's history and rural healthcare.

For more information about the event or to contribute anecdotes, photos, or questions on the topic, contact Holger Siemann at [email protected] or 01633273041.
