Report Preparation Task Helped by the Commission
In the heart of Germany, the Saalekreis district recently welcomed the 31st edition of its Regional Yearbook. The publication, which has been a staple since 1995, was presented on September 18, 2025, at the newly opened Tierpark Café of the Petersberg Zoo.
District Administrator Hartmut Handschak expressed his gratitude to the authors for their diligent work in compiling the yearbook. He emphasised the rich diversity of the region, stating that the yearbook serves as a historical and readable document for both present and future generations.
The 2025 edition features 19 articles, offering a touristic and historical excursion through the municipality of Kloschwitz, including the mining site Johannashall. Readers will also find reports on fauna and flora related to the region, as well as retrospectives on recent events such as the Landesgartenschau 2024 in Bad Dürrenberg and the 9th Carl Loewe Festival.
The yearbook provides a comprehensive overview of the district's diverse history and cultural and natural landscapes, featuring articles on personalities, places, historical events, and other topics. It also includes two Bismarck towers in the Saalekreis, located in Petersberg and Wettin-Löbejün.
The Regional Yearbook has been the yearbook of the Saalekreis since the merger of districts in 2007. It is now available at the Petersberg Museum and the Cultural-Historical Museum Schloss Merseburg for those who wish to delve deeper into the region's captivating history.
Over 736 articles have been published in the 31 editions of the Regional Yearbook, making it an invaluable resource for anyone interested in the Saalekreis district. The authors discover, research, and compile stories for each edition, ensuring that the yearbook remains a fascinating read year after year.
