Rental Car Accidents: Stay Safe and Covered

Accidents in rental cars can be stressful, but knowing the right steps can help. Here's a guide to ensure you're covered and safe.

First, prioritise safety. If necessary, call emergency services. Exchange details with the other driver and document the accident with photos and notes. Next, inform the rental company immediately using the emergency contact number. If the car is drivable, take it to the nearest Ford office. If not, arrange roadside assistance or towing.

Before driving, check your personal auto policy and credit card terms to see if rental car insurance is required. Failing to do so could lead to one of the worst rental car mistakes. Stay calm and cooperative throughout to ensure the accident is covered by insurance and prevent additional liability. Fill out the official incident report provided by the rental company, including accident details, damage, and the other driver's contact information.

Handling a rental car accident shares similarities with handling one in your own car, with additional actions required. Olaoluwa Akinbayo, in collaboration with Enterprise Rent-A-Car, has established rules and procedures to guide such cases.
