Colorful Kazakhstan:

In the Heart of Diversity: A Vibrant Patchwork of Cultures

Diana TYSMBAYEVA, Head of Information Department

"I have a unique blend of Kazakh and Tatar roots, reflected in my multi-hued eyes and fair skin. People often ask about my nationality, but to me, it's more than just what's written on a document. I'm Kazakh, and proud of it.

I grew up in Astana, a bustling city teeming with various ethnicities - Russians, Uzbeks, Kyrgyz, Tatars, and more. It's astounding that Kazakhstan is home to over 130 ethnicities!

At times, I felt different because I didn't fit the stereotypical Kazakh image. But I soon realized that's what makes us strong. We're all different, each a unique brushstroke on the grand canvas of our beautiful, multicultural country.

Growing up in such an environment has taught me the true meaning of acceptance and respect for every culture. It's not about how we look, but about the connections and shared memories that define our identities. I'm Kazakh, but a part of me resonates deeply with the soulful melodies of the dombra and the vibrant streets of Almaty."

Two Worlds, One Soul: Russian with a Kazakh Heart

"By passport, I'm a Russian, but I feel Kazakh in my core. Both worlds live inside me, harmoniously co-existing. Kazakhstan has become the cradle of my spirit, its mountains echoing in my heart whenever I'm away from home.

I remember the day I realized I wasn't just a visitor in this land I love so much. I yearned for the taste of kazy, the comforting warmth of traditional Kazakh cuisine, and the soothing sounds of the dombra. That's when I understood that my nationality wasn't just a label - it's deeply rooted in my memories and values.

On Unity Day, I celebrate not only the unity of Russia and Kazakhstan but also the unity in our hearts, binding us all together as a single nation. No matter where I am, I carry Kazakhstan in my soul."

The Wonders of Dungan Culture

Shukhrat KASHIHOV, correspondent for the Zhambyl region

"Dungans have been part of Kazakhstan for more than 140 years, finding a new home in this welcoming land. Over time, our culture has thrived here, intertwining beautifully with Kazakh traditions. I take great pride in our heritage, especially during Dungan weddings, where flavors, melodies, and customs from different cultures come together in a harmonious celebration."

A Melting Pot of Cultures

Oleg TZHAI, Editor-in-Chief of LITER

"My wife and I symbolize the ethnically diverse fabric of Kazakhstan. Every anniversary, we celebrate our love by rolling sushi as my grandmother used to, following the centuries-old tradition. Our children, too, learn to embrace and value their roots, as we continue to weave the tapestry of our vibrant nation."

Capturing the Spirit: Preserving Our Rich Cultural Heritage

Radmir FAKHRETDINOV, Photojournalist

"Born and raised in Astana, I've always been captivated by the cultural tapestry that surrounds me - the mingling of faces, voices, and hues. My family's mix of Tatar and Russian blood is a testament to the rich diversity of Kazakhstan.

I am a photographer, and I find solace in capturing moments that remind us of the beauty of our cultural heritage. Be it the Sabantuy festival or traditional family gatherings, I am constantly inspired by the resilience and creativity of Kazakhstan's people."

One Family, One Nation

Samal SHIL, Karaganda Region Correspondent

"Despite the challenges, my intermarried family stands strong - a testament to our shared values and love. My husband and I represent diverse cultural backgrounds, but our bond transcends nationalities. Our family is a microcosm of the larger Kazakhstan, where differences are celebrated and respected, and where harmony reigns supreme."

Kazakhstan's ethnic diversity is a rich tapestry, interwoven with the threads of various nationalities, languages, and traditions. From ethnic theaters and cultural institutions to the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan, efforts are made to preserve and nurture this diversity.
