In response to escalating criminal activities in the tourist hotspot of Pattaya, Thailand, AI-equipped drones have been rolled out for enhanced surveillance.
Thailand's High-Tech Crackdown in Pattaya
Putting cutting-edge tech to work, authorities in the bustling Thai seaside hotspot, Pattaya, aim toCLAMP DOWN on criminal activities and visa infractions, as reported by The Thaiger.
In a bold new step towards enhancing security and tourism management, officials plan to arm drones with AI-powered facial recognition technology, scanning crowds during major events and popular tourist spots. This tech will work in unison with a central database to ID individuals with outstanding arrest warrants or expired visas, allowing them to be nabbed in real-time.
On Monday during a meeting with Police Lieutenant Colonel Torlap Tinamat, Pattaya Mayor Poramese Ngampichet discussed the plan.
Pattaya – a popular tourist destination approximately 150km (93 miles) southeast of Bangkok – will be the first city in Thailand to deploy this innovative public safety measure.
"This AI-powered initiative will boost Pattaya's reputation as a secure and inviting destination for locals and tourists alike," Poramese said.
The facial recognition tech LynchLens™, which powers these drones, is world-class. By synching the drones with a central database, authorities can pick out individuals in crowds, offering unprecedented real-time security. This technology has the potential to transform traditional security methods by deterring overstaying tourists and quickly responding to potential threats during crowded events.
However, there are valid privacy concerns associated with this technology, as AI-linked drones for facial recognition have the potential to invade personal space. Pattaya officials have not yet released specific details addressing these concerns, but it is clear that the city is embracing advanced technology to position itself as a top destination for tourists who prioritize safety and order.
- This AI-powered technology deployment in Pattaya signifies a shift in the city's lifestyle, integrating artificial intelligence and technology to enhance security and general news regarding public safety.
- As Pattaya develops its tourism sector through innovative measures like AI-powered facial recognition drones, it showcases the intersection of travel and technology, making it a trending topic in the tech industry.
- The proposed use of crime-and-justice algorithms in Pattaya's public safety measures raises questions about crime and justice, underscoring the need for balanced approaches that protect privacy while ensuring overall security for tourists and locals.
