Hyderabad's Old City Gets Major Boost: New Rs 52 Crore Road Over Bridge Opens
Hyderabad's Old City has received a significant boost in connectivity with the opening of a new Road Over Bridge (RoB) near the historic Falaknuma Palace on Friday. The Rs 52.03 crore project, four years in the making, is expected to ease heavy traffic congestion and benefit thousands of commuters and tourists.
The 360-metre-long RoB, built parallel to the existing one, will connect Chandrayangutta with major areas, including Falaknuma Palace, Engine Bowli, Shamsheergunj, Aliabad, and surrounding neighborhoods. This will significantly reduce travel time for commuters and improve connectivity for tourists visiting the iconic Falaknuma Palace and Charminar.
The project faced numerous hurdles, with the proposal cleared as far back as 2018. Despite the delays, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) persevered and completed the bridge over the Secunderabad-Falaknuma Broadgauge line. The RoB is one of the key projects taken up in and around the Old City to ease traffic congestion, coinciding with the preparatory work to provide Hyderabad Metro Rail connectivity to the area.
The new RoB is expected to greatly improve connectivity and reduce congestion on the key stretch connecting Charminar-Falaknuma road to Chandrayangutta. With the inauguration of this bridge, the Old City continues to see infrastructure developments that aim to enhance its accessibility and tourism potential.
