Historic City of Hoi An Illuminates as Asia's Prime Historical Attraction: France's Virtual Travel Hub Declares

Ho Chi Minh City (Hội An) in Vietnam has taken the top spot in Asia in Tourlane's evaluation of the most beautiful historic centres. This ancient town, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1999, is now standing alongside globally acclaimed destinations such as Krakow in Poland, Avignon in France, and Cartagena in Colombia.

Tourlane evaluated old quarters across four criteria: pedestrian space, age, entrance fees, and popularity on Instagram. Ho Chi Minh City (Hội An) was ranked highly due to its well-preserved 16th-century architecture, affordable entrance fees of 2 euros ($2.36), and a pedestrian-friendly layout. The city is illuminated by thousands of colourful lanterns, making it one of the best-preserved ancient towns in Southeast Asia, as Tourlane describes.

Rounding out the top five in Asia are Bhaktapur in Nepal, Kyoto in Japan, Luang Prabang in Laos, and Galle in Sri Lanka. In Latin America, Cartagena of Colombia claims the top spot, with its 16th-century fortifications and colourful old quarter.

In the Americas, Saint Augustine in the US' Florida state earns recognition as the standout ancient quarter, bearing Spanish colonial influences dating back to 1565. Oaxaca in Mexico, Salvador de Bahia in Brazil, and Panama and Buenos Aires in Argentina are also recognized in the Americas and Latin America regions.

Europe's Krakow leads the rankings for global historic centres, with a UNESCO-listed historic centre dating back to the seventh century. France's Avignon ranks sixth, recognized for its Gothic architecture from the 14th to 16th centuries and tranquil sites such as the Urbain V gardens and the Carmelite Monastery.

The North Africa and Middle East region boasts the world's most ancient historic centres. Morocco's imperial cities of Fes and Marrakech, Qatar's modern capital Doha, and Egypt's historic Cairo are also recognized in this region. North Africa and Middle East's Sousse, Tunisia, is praised for its pristine white Medina stretching toward the Mediterranean Sea.

In conclusion, Ho Chi Minh City (Hội An) has proven itself as a must-visit destination for those seeking a glimpse into rich history and vibrant culture. Whether you're wandering through its well-preserved streets or marvelling at its colourful lanterns, Ho Chi Minh City (Hội An) offers an unforgettable experience.
