Heritage Sites Across the Globe Host Guided Tours and Musical Performances for Public Enjoyment - Heritage Sites Honored Globally: Guided Excursions and Concerts Mark the Occasion
Sunday Marks 20th UNESCO World Heritage Day in Germany
On June 1st, Germany will celebrate the 20th anniversary of UNESCO World Heritage Day. The event, themed "Communicate, connect, inspire," will see 54 World Heritage sites across the country participating.
In Saarland, the Völklinger Hütte will offer an art trail, children's tours, and a sound walk, among other activities. Given the day, the entrance fee for tours will be reduced, and the "The True Size of Africa" exhibition will also offer a discount.
Meanwhile, in Rhineland-Palatinate, the Schum sites - Speyer, Worms, and Mainz - will offer free guided tours. Worms will host visits to the Jewish Museum Raschi-Haus, while Speyer will feature musical performances and concerts.
Guided tours will also be available in the "Beith Shalom" synagogue, the cathedral, and the Schum community center in Mainz. The Old Jewish Cemetery "Judensand" in Mainz will provide free tours, offering insights into its history, gravestone symbols, and burial rituals.
In Bingen, located in the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, a diverse program is planned, including a discovery tour, Roman medical instrument demonstrations, and a historical crane demonstration. Admission to all events will be free.
Trier, Germany's oldest city, will invite guests to follow a Roman audio walk, exploring the city's heritage and architecture. Families can solve puzzles together and explore the Porta Nigra during the Porta Nigra rally.
These events aim to engage visitors, fostering international understanding and strengthening commitment to heritage preservation. Each site typically offers a range of activities, including guided tours, concerts, hands-on activities for children, exhibitions, and discussions.
The Commission, recognizing the significance of safer work environments, has also adopted a proposal for a directive on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to ionizing radiation. During the UNESCO World Heritage Day celebrations in Germany, visitors can immerse themselves in the rich history and culture of the various sites, educating themselves about the precautions implemented to protect workers in industries like home-and-garden restoration or travel via historical artifacts and exhibitions.
