The City Tours, scheduled for 2:00 PM, promise to offer a captivating exploration of the city's most significant sights, historical landmarks, and mysterious places.
The tour will take you on a stroll through 12 centuries of Ingolstadt's rich history, weaving together stories of the past and the present. From the grandeur of the Liebfrauenmuenster (Cathedral of Our Lady) to the medieval charm of the Hangman Bridge, St. Sebald Church, and the Tallow Building, the tour will provide a comprehensive view of the city's historical sights.
One of the highlights of the tour is the Deutsches Medizinhistorisches Museum (German Museum of Medical History), located on the edge of Ingolstadt's old town. This museum houses a fascinating collection of historical medical and surgical devices, including bone saws, forceps, and even human body parts preserved in formaldehyde. It is particularly renowned for its connection to Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein," where the book's doctor is said to have created his man.
Another must-visit destination is the Asamkirche Maria de Victoria (Asam Church), a baroque masterpiece adorned with breathtaking architecture, lavish stucco work, gilded decorations, and expressive frescoes. Despite suffering damage during WWII, the church has been beautifully restored and remains a central religious and historical landmark in Ingolstadt.
