Egyptian filmmaker Khaled Khella has gained recognition for his unflinching portrayals of youth navigating societal challenges. His latest film, 'Egyptian Misery', has further cemented his reputation for crossing red lines and depicting raw, honest portraits.

Khella was born in 1992 in Helwan, an industrial district south of Cairo. His cinematic journey began with a mission to capture the unseen realities of youth in Egyptian society. His first international recognition came through his short film 'Dunya wa Akhira', which screened at festivals worldwide.

Khella's film 'Public Indecency' won second prize for its screenplay at the first El Gouna Film Festival. In '130 km to Heaven', he examined the dreams and delusions of two friends chasing money and fleeting pleasures. In 'The Landlord', he explored harassment by a person in power within a cramped apartment building. For 'Egyptian Misery', Khella cast non-professional actors to keep reactions shy and honest, depicting raw portraits of eight young Egyptians grappling with invisible wounds.
