Discover Annie Au: Yoga Instructor Specializing in Yin Yoga on Our Platform

Meet Annie Au, our Yin Yoga and Trauma-Informed Yoga mentor who'll be sharing her wisdom on our platform in June. Don't miss out on this golden opportunity to learn from one of the leading experts in Yin and Trauma-Informed Yoga. Here's her thrilling journey to yoga and why you should join her!

Origins and Early Struggles

Born in the bustling cityscape of Hong Kong and raised in the chilly Canadian winters, Annie Au found herself entwined in the competitive world of professional ballet at the tender age of 12. For years, she endured rigorous dance training and even embarked on an exciting career as a contemporary and commercial dancer, touring Europe and sailing the world on a luxury cruise ship.

Despite the glitz and glamour, Annie felt an emptiness that she could never shake. Feeling lost and adrift, she turned to yoga during her dance career's twilight years, grateful for the inherent sense of belonging she found in the collective vibration of Om.

The Healing Power of Yin Yoga

After retiring from dance, Annie sought solace in yoga and attended numerous classes in Canada. Although she couldn't remember the specific styles of yoga she practiced, the resonant chant of Om etched itself into her memory, filling her with a deeply rooted sense of belonging.

In search of a purpose, Annie took a yoga teacher training in Thailand and initially immersed herself in the intense discipline of Ashtanga yoga. However, she soon realized that her perfectionist tendencies, rooted in her dance days, were resurfacing, leaving her fixated on the physical form of her practice.

Fate intervened when a friend introduced her to a Yin Yoga training in Bangkok. With an open mind and a longing for something new, Annie embarked on a journey that would irrevocably change her life. The Yin training profoundly impacted her on multiple levels, enlightening her on the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of this unique practice.

A New Path Emerges: Trauma-Informed Yin Yoga

Annie's life was forever altered after experiencing the transformative power of Yin yoga. She went on to specialize in Trauma-Informed Yin yoga, where she seamlessly integrates neuroscience with this gentle practice. Her teachings focus on the healing potential of yin yoga and somatic practices such as Qi Gong, tapping, sound healing, and acupressure, helping to regulate the nervous system.

During her training, Annie delves deep into the physiological and psychological effects of trauma and recognizes the crucial role that yin yoga plays in reconnecting our bodies and minds.

The Journey to Vikasa Yoga Retreat

Annie discovered Vikasa Yoga Retreat in 2012, as she was teaching yoga teacher training in Koh Phangan. Her visits to Koh Samui never went without stopping by the retreat, appreciating not only its delectable healthy fare but also its breathtaking vistas, perfect for practicing yoga and self-reflection.

The Passion Behind the Teaching

Annie's teaching style is characterized by her sincerity and the unique fusion of Yin yoga with Trauma-Informed Yoga. In this 100-hour course, she offers participants a wealth of wisdom and practices designed to heal, evolve, and rejuvenate both mind and body.

Beyond her enthusiasm for blending yoga practices with neuroscience, Annie finds profound satisfaction in seeing her students harness the Toolkit they've learned to mend their souls and help others on their healing journey.
