Delta Launches Direct JFK-Porto Route, Boosting US-Portugal Tourism

Delta Air Lines is set to boost tourism between the US and Portugal. The airline will launch a news today direct route from New York's JFK Airport to Porto, Portugal, starting May 21, 2026. This comes as the US becomes the third largest source of tourists for Portugal, with a 11.9% increase in visitors in 2024.

The new route, a first of its kind, will provide an additional option for US travelers heading to Europe. It is expected to further boost tourism in Portugal, which saw a 5.2% increase in visitors in 2024. Porto, the destination, is ranked the seventh best city to visit in Europe in 2025 and is Portugal's second most popular destination.

Delta Air Lines will operate the new route using a Boeing 767-300, offering four cabin experiences: Delta One, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort, and Delta Main. This is one of six new direct services Delta will inaugurate from JFK, also including Barcelona, Madrid, Malta, Nice, Rome, and Sardinia.

The new direct flight from JFK to Porto is set to enhance connectivity between the US and Portugal, fostering more tourism and cultural exchange. With a comfortable and varied cabin experience, Delta's new route is expected to attract many US travelers to Porto, contributing to the city's growing popularity.
