Brunswick Unveils Climate Adaptation Strategy with Pilot Projects
Brunswick is set to host a significant event focused on climate adaptation. The 'Co-Adapted Brunswick' project, funded by the Federal Ministry of the Environment, aims to help the city tackle climate change impacts such as heat, drought, and heavy rain. The event, a key step in developing a municipal climate adaptation strategy, will showcase a climate risk analysis, adaptation measures, and pilot projects in various city districts. It will also discuss future collaborations between key stakeholders.
The event, culminating on September 10, will present a municipal climate adaptation strategy and practical examples from neighborhood initiatives. Speakers will include Dr. Enke Frank, President of TU Brunswick, and Anna Katharina Hanusch, Deputy Mayor of Brunswick. The project, a collaboration between the City of Brunswick, ISU - Institute for Sustainable Urbanism, and the Institute of Geoscience at TU Brunswick, has identified three central fields of action for climate adaptation and implemented pilot projects to test interdisciplinary cooperation.
Within the project, neighborhood pilot initiatives have been developed to adapt to climate impacts. These include awareness campaigns for vulnerable groups during extreme heat events, distributing cooling and protective materials, and various small-scale local projects aimed at climate adaptation in public spaces. These initiatives will be continued and supported through a strong network involving politics, administration, research, economy, and civil society to jointly address climate adaptation challenges in Brunswick.
The 'Co-Adapted Brunswick' project demonstrates the city's commitment to climate resilience. The event will not only present a municipal climate adaptation strategy but also foster future collaborations between key stakeholders. By showcasing practical examples and discussing future plans, the event aims to create a roadmap for a more climate-adapted Brunswick.
