Bolt introduce airport pick-up flight tracking service in South Africa

In an effort to improve airport transportation and enhance user experience, Bolt South Africa has launched a new feature - Flight Tracking for Scheduled Rides. This innovation, integrated into the Bolt app, allows both individual and corporate users to monitor their rides in real-time.

To utilise this service, users simply need to tap "Schedule" on the Bolt app home screen. They can then enter their arrival airport, destination, airline, flight number, landing date, or departure city. Users also have the option to choose how long after landing they'd like to be picked up.

The new system aims to streamline the airport pick-up process and provide a more seamless experience. It is expected to benefit both riders and drivers by ensuring a smoother and more efficient service. If a flight is delayed or cancelled, the ride will automatically adjust or be cancelled at no extra cost, providing peace of mind for customers.

Lerato Motsoeneng, Senior General Manager at Bolt, said, "Customers can now enjoy peace of mind knowing their ride will adjust if their flight is delayed or cancelled." The flight tracking feature for scheduled rides is currently available at major airports in South Africa, including OR Tambo (JNB), Cape Town (CPT), King Shaka (DUR), Lanseria (HLA), and Port Elizabeth (PLZ).

For individual users, this tracking provides real-time visibility of the ride’s progress, enhanced safety via emergency assistance features, and protection against fraud or impersonation, thanks to mandatory rider ID verification and pickup PIN codes.

For corporate users, the benefits extend to improved oversight and management of employee travel, increased accountability and safety for employees commuting on work-related trips, and risk reduction through enforced safety protocols and automated monitoring.

Bolt's scheduled rides feature has seen a 275% increase in usage, highlighting its growing popularity among users. The company plans to implement the improved airport pick-up system in the near future, further cementing its position as a leading player in the South African transportation market.

Last year, the scheduling window for the feature was extended to 90 days, providing users with greater flexibility. As part of Bolt's broader multi-layered safety approach, the flight tracking feature is just one aspect of the company's commitment to ensuring safe, transparent, and reliable ride experiences for all its users.
