Beach Lounger Prices at Cala Major Ruled Illegal in Mallorca
The environmental association Gob has lodged a complaint regarding exorbitant beach lounger prices at Cala Major beach in Mallorca. The Balearic Ministry of the Sea has since ruled these prices illegal, ordering operators to adjust them within ten days.
Beach loungers are a lucrative commodity on Mallorca's beaches, with some at Cala Major priced as high as 70 euros, far surpassing the legal limit of 18 euros. The ministry's ruling follows a complaint by Gob, which argued that these prices were excessive. Failure to comply with the ministry's order may result in fines issued to the beach operators, to be paid to the town hall. Local government authorities, typically the municipal or island council (Inseltat), oversee enforcement and sanctions related to such violations.
