Average hotel stays in Germany become 9% less expensive compared to 2024 rates.
In a recent study by the comparison portal Check24, it has been revealed that hotel stays in Germany are significantly cheaper this summer compared to last year. Niclas Meindl of Check24 explains that this trend shows people are planning their summer holidays more price-oriented.
According to the study, hotel stays in cities like Munich, Düsseldorf, Dortmund, and Leipzig are particularly cheaper this summer. The average hotel stay in Dortmund costs 94 euros, a 16% decrease from last year's summer holidays. In Düsseldorf, the average hotel stay costs 103 euros, a 15% reduction, while Leipzig offers an average of 84 euros per night, a 19% decrease. The price reduction is most pronounced in Munich, with an average hotel stay costing 113 euros, a 27% decrease compared to last year.
The primary reason for these cheaper hotel stays is the removal of the temporary price premium that had built up for the Euro 2024 football event. Major German cities like Frankfurt, Cologne, and Berlin experienced elevated hotel rates during the tournament due to high demand. However, now that the event has concluded, these premium prices have dropped sharply as the market returns to normal levels. For instance, hotel rates in Frankfurt fell by 18.4%, Cologne by 14.7%, and Berlin by 11.1% compared to the previous year.
This decline in hotel rates also reflects a combination of softer demand, increased competition among hotels, and a shift in traveler preferences after a period of inflated prices. Leisure destinations across Europe are similarly adjusting prices, likely due to more cautious consumer spending and a recalibration of what guests are willing to pay.
